If you choose to carry over TRC progress, you don't need to play the main story in any form to unlock the stratums, it will be exactly the same progress as you last left it. In Akatsuki it could take weeks or months before you get a single character you. Some of the translations sound very rough, awkward, or down right nonsensical.
